Designing the Perfect Wallpaper Sample Book: Beyond the Cover

In our previous blog, we discussed the importance of creating visually stunning wallpaper sample book covers and fittings, as well as effectively incorporating your branding.

You can read last month’s blog here.

Now, let’s dive into designing the equally crucial aspect of your perfect pattern book: the livery. Over our 46 years of experience in pattern book manufacturing, we’ve been asked countless questions about designing the layout of wallpaper sample books. Let’s address some of the most common ones.

How Many Wallpapers Should I Include?

While there’s no definitive answer, it is essential to consider the overall weight and size of your book. A heavier book might be more difficult to handle, so it’s worth exploring options like fewer patterns, or smaller page sizes for smaller designs. Ultimately, your wallpaper collection should be well-curated and engaging to your target audience regardless of how many pages are in the book.

Ask yourself:

  • Does the collection have a cohesive theme?
  • Do the designs complement each other?
  • Are they appealing to a diverse audience?
  • Would it be better to split the collection into multiple books targeting different spaces or audiences?
  • Are there too many colours and patterns to choose from?

This will give you a better idea of what, or what not, to include in your wallpaper sample pattern book. We have years of experience producing pattern books, so please don’t be scared to ask for some advice!

The Power of Printed Pages

Nothing can inspire a wallpaper purchase more than seeing it in a beautifully styled room. Include lifestyle shots that showcase the wallpaper in real-world settings, along with coordinating fabrics and paint colours, to inspire your consumers. This will make it easier for consumers to envision the wallpaper in their own homes.

Combining Fabrics and Wallpaper

Coordinate books, or look books, are a great way to showcase fabrics and wallpapers from the same collection. However, be mindful of including too many products in a single book. A cluttered book can overwhelm consumers.

Focus on a few hero designs and support them with stunning photography and well-thought-out room schemes to give your wallpaper pattern book a coherent look and feel.

Partnering with Paint Brands

If you have your own paint brand, including paint chip cards can further enhance your customer experience. Even if you don’t have your own paints, consider partnering with a paint brand for cross-promotion.

The Importance of Pre-Production Prototypes

At Sampling International, we provide pre-production prototypes to ensure you’re completely satisfied with the size, layout, and running order of your book before the bulk order is produced. Our team is always available to offer advice and support throughout the entire process.

Sample Production and Fulfilment

We can also produce and distribute your wallpaper samples, saving you time, money, and carbon emissions. We can assist with adding your ID and technical information to the samples, can mail them out to retailers and consumers and can even advise on cost-effective shipping methods.

By carefully considering these factors and working with a trusted partner like Sampling International, you can create wallpaper books that not only showcase your designs but also inspire and engage your customers.
