Blessed with clear skies and dry weather, on 22 January 2025, our Sales and Marketing Manager, Caroline, accompanied by one of our lovely customers, pulled on her wellies and joined fellow ‘Carbon Captors’, at the historic Smithills Estate in Bolton for a special tree planting event.
Smithills Estate is the largest site ever acquired by the Woodland Trust in England, and provided an absolutely stunning backdrop for this tree planting initiative. The estate has a diverse landscape of grasslands, woodlands, moorlands, and bog habitats, rich in wildlife and steeped in history.
The group collectively planted 600 native trees, including oak, downy birch, and aspen.
The event followed a major milestone for the Carbon Capture® programme, which has donated over £2 million to the Woodland Trust to date. This achievement reflects the collective impact of businesses like us at Sampling International in supporting the programme.
Caroline thoroughly enjoyed the day saying “it was great to be out in the fresh air, planting trees, spending time with people from a wide variety of industries. Sustainability and environmental awareness are key to the Sampling International business, and being able to literally get my hands dirty and make a positive impact on the planet was incredibly rewarding.”
The Woodland Trust’s ongoing efforts at Smithills Estate include restoring ancient woodlands, managing grasslands, and protecting rare species such as skylarks, barn owls, and five species of bat. The newly planted trees will further enhance these efforts, providing habitats for wildlife and enriching the estate’s ecological diversity.
The Carbon Capture® programme and events like this provide opportunities to align sustainability goals with tangible action, enhancing corporate social responsibility initiatives while making a real difference in the fight against climate change.
